MONICA DESAI, EX-META HEAD OF GLOBAL CONNECTIVITY POLICY - THE FAIR SHARE DEBATE: HEARING IT FROM THE BIG TECH PERSPECTIVE

Date and Time
September 22, 2023 — 3:00PM UK / 10:00AM ET

We are delighted to announce that we will be hosting a call with Monica Desai, the ex-Meta Head of Global Connectivity Policy on Friday 22nd September.

With the completion of the EC’s consultation on the Fair Share economics between the providers of content vs. the providers of infrastructure due shortly, we are delighted to host a call with Monica Desai who used to work at Meta as their head of global connectivity policy. The EC’s consultation could potentially change the fundamentals of the Internet ecosystem in Europe, and the telecoms operators are lobbying hard to receive incremental revenues as high as €18-20bn/ annum from the large tech firms such as Amazon, Meta, Google & Netflix to help support their infrastructure buildout. Therefore, hearing Monica’s views on this and to understand more about the approach Big Tech has taken in response to this consultation and their relations with the EC more broadly will be very insightful.SPEAKER BIOGRAPHY:Monica worked at Meta in Washington DC for 7 years where she led a global team of 26 Connectivity experts in 8 separate policy verticals: spectrum, network infrastructure, OTT messaging, net neutrality, broadband deployment, accessibility, OTT video, and international orgs focused on telecoms. Prior to that Monica worked for the law firm Squire Patton Boggs and prior to that she worked for the FCC, where she was the Chief of the Media Bureau.
